I left Innisfail State High School in 1984 (yes, repeated Year 12 after wasting my time in 1983 - did much better second time around!).

I joined the Commonwealth Bank in January 1985 as a Teller at Innisfail branch, transferred to Mossman & Port Douglas sub-branch in 1987, transferred to Ravenshoe in 1989, then transferred to Mareeba and worked in Loans Dept from 1991. I finally figured out that banking was not the career for me after nearly 8 years and left in Nov 1992 and married and came back to Innisfail to live.

Had a holiday for a few months then took up a job with Coles Supermarket (ending up as NightFill Manager, and Relief Duty Manager in 1999) until offered a job with Wormald/Chubb Security.

After working for Chubb for a few years, I then went into partnership with a local ex-policeman and set up Johnstone River Security and am still co-proprietor of this business.

I also found time to join the RAAF Active Reserve in Sep 2000 with my home unit being 27 Sqn at RAAF Townsville. As a newly commissioned Pilot Officer OPSO, I manage to spend just over 100 working days last financial year on RAAF deployments and exercises (4 trips to RAAF Darwin in last year, with my next deployment at Darwin commencing 25 August). The RAAF has also been kind enough to send me to RAAF Point Cook and East Sale in sunny Victoria, and RAAF Williamtown (Newcastle) for my Junior Officer Initial Course and Basic OPS Courses.

When I'm not on 'working holidays' on deployment with the RAAF, the local Air Cadets have the (dubious!?) honour of my presence in the role of Training Officer which unfortunately 'kills' most Friday nights!

Must say I'm considering a career in the PAF (permanent Air Force) but not sure if I want my three daughters to be changing homes and schools every couple of years. A 'life on the road' was okay back in my younger days when working at Commonwealth Bank branches but now have a family to think of.

I married Lorelei Loane, a former Cairns girl, in February 1993 and we now have 3 daughters - Kirsty Jane has just turned 9, Shannon Kate 7, and Justine 4.

I have 10 years of blissful married life to celebrate in February next year - doesn't time fly.
